Guavas from South Africa

Guavas are fragrant tropical fruit with a sweet, musky flavour and a soft flesh that may be pink or white, eaten fresh or used in juices, nectars, jams and desserts. In South Africa they are grown in Mpumalanga and in parts of the Western Cape.
The export season begins in February and ends in August, with the main volumes from March to July. Guavas are picked mature but firm, since they soften quickly once ripe. They are sorted for size and skin quality, packed in single layers in cartons with protective wrapping where needed, and shipped under refrigeration.
