Oranges from South Africa

Oranges are juicy, sweet citrus fruit eaten fresh or pressed for juice, and a staple of every fresh-produce range. South Africa is one of the leading citrus exporters, with orange orchards in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.
The export season runs from April to November: navel oranges come first, followed by Valencia and late types. Main varieties include Navel, Cara Cara (a pink-fleshed navel), Valencia and Midknight. The fruit is washed, graded by size and colour, waxed where required, packed in ventilated cartons and shipped in refrigerated containers.
