Raspberries from South Africa

Raspberries are delicate red berries with a sweet, slightly tart flavour and a soft texture, used fresh, in desserts, pastries, sauces and as a garnish. South African export raspberries are grown in the Western Cape, largely under tunnels that protect the fruit and extend the season.
They are available for export from November to March. Raspberries are highly perishable: they are hand-picked ripe directly into ventilated punnets, packed in cartons and pre-cooled within hours of harvest. The fruit travels under a strict, unbroken cold chain, usually by air freight, to reach buyers in good condition.
