Mangoes from South Africa

Mangoes are juicy tropical fruit with a smooth, sweet and aromatic flesh, eaten fresh or used in juices, desserts, chutneys and salads. South African mangoes are grown in the warm lowlands of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
The export season starts in November and ends in March, with the main volumes from December to February. Varieties include Tommy Atkins, Kent, Keitt, Shelly and Sensation, which differ in size, colour and fibre. Mangoes are harvested mature, washed, often given a hot-water treatment, graded by count and packed in single-layer cartons, then shipped under refrigeration.
