Kiwifruit from South Africa

Kiwifruit are oval fruit with a brown, fuzzy skin and bright green flesh dotted with small black seeds, offering a tangy-sweet flavour. They are eaten fresh, in fruit salads and desserts. South African kiwifruit is grown on a modest scale in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
The fruit is available for export from March to August, with the main volumes from April to July. Kiwifruit are harvested firm, graded by size, and packed in trays or cartons, often in single layers. They keep well when stored cold and are shipped in refrigerated containers, away from ethylene-producing fruit.
