Litchis from South Africa

Litchis are round tropical fruit with a thin, rough red skin and a translucent white flesh that is juicy, sweet and delicately floral. They are enjoyed fresh, especially around the year-end festivities. South African litchis are grown in the subtropical areas of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
The export season opens in November and closes in April, with the main volumes from December to March. The main varieties are HLH Mauritius and McLean's Red. Litchis are harvested in bunches, sorted, often treated to keep their red colour, packed in cartons or punnets and moved quickly under refrigeration.
